Our stand at the show
Due to travelling constraints from Europe, we did not offer a lot on the product side. The new Safmarine and CX containers sold out very quickly. We also introduced the SML-13 container wagon into the Hobby Line. The DZ was sporting a brand new tarpaulin, the response to the tarpaulin was very positive. This will hit the shop shelves soon. We also had samples of HOBBY line stock with the new Transnet Freight Rail logo.

National Train Show - Gauteng
CMD Models attended the 14th SA National Model Railway Convention. We had a small stand at the National Train Show on Heritage Day. This gave me an opportunity to chat to customers and fellow enthusiasts. Also discuss new models and the SA modelling scene in general.
I will be adding more information about the convention over the next few weeks.

Paddy O'Flaherty
Paddy O'Flaherty passed away on the 13 June. Paddy who had been fighting ill health for a very long time was a great detail modeller and a true gentleman. I visited Paddy many times at his house, mingled with him at MRS, RMIG meetings and at the convention. Above is a picture (Paddy in the centre, the chap sitting down) of what Paddy loved to do most, mix with people and share his passion for railways, especially show off all the SA related items he made.
My condolences to his wife Dinah and family.
RIP old mate.

New Models
With orders of the B-2 / FZJ-6 wagons in full flow.
Customers have been asking what new models CMD is planning. There are a number of projects in various phases of planning and design.
Bogies (trucks):
New plastic bogies will happen with the Spoorbarber and SARCAST bogies. Hopefully these will be ready later this year. They will be plastic and hopefully be better than the original. The only dilemma at the moment is what wheels to use for the 16.5mm and 12mm versions.
Freight wagons:
The classic design of the FZJ-7 grain wagon is going to happen, as previously announced. This design is truly wonderful and will fill many eras from the 50's to present day. The model will be very similar in design detail to the FZJ-6 but will have a few improvements in the brake detail and body end design, which has been discussed with the toolmaker.
Tanker:
Have been discussing various options for a tanker wagon. Cement wagon would be nice but still weighing up the options.
Locomotive:
Design on two locomotives using injected technology is well advanced the aim is to get our first RTR locomotive ready for the 2nd half of 2009. CMD is only looking at doing Diesels and Electrics for the foreseeable future and leaving steam to others.
There will be one or two surprises coming in plastic but will give no clues as some surprises keep the hobby interesting!
